Dr. James Naismith je "hrdina", kter\u00fd dal sv\u011btu basketbal. Jeho v\u00fdtvor v p\u016fvodn\u00ed podob\u011b rozhodn\u011b nen\u00ed tou pod\u00edvanou, jakou vid\u00edme dnes, ale kreativita u\u010ditele t\u011blesn\u00e9 v\u00fdchovy je na \u0161pi\u010dkov\u00e9 \u00farovni, o \u010dem\u017e sv\u011bd\u010d\u00ed i prvn\u00ed basketbalov\u00fd ko\u0161, kter\u00fd pou\u017eil. <\/p>

Vynalezl hru, kter\u00e1 zam\u011bstn\u00e1vala sv\u00e9 studenty v mraziv\u00e9m dni, a zav\u011bsil ko\u0161\u00edk s broskvemi, nebo sp\u00ed\u0161e n\u011bco jako d\u0159ev\u011bn\u00e9 v\u011bdro. P\u0159ibil ho ke zdi ve v\u00fd\u0161ce 3 048 metr\u016f (10 stop). Samoz\u0159ejm\u011b je kv\u016fli tomu zatracen\u011b nep\u0159\u00edjemn\u00e9 pokra\u010dovat ve h\u0159e. Aby se scrimmage obnovila, mus\u00ed n\u011bkdo pou\u017e\u00edt \u017eeb\u0159\u00edk a ru\u010dn\u011b odstranit m\u00ed\u010d z ko\u0161e, proto\u017ee m\u00e1 dno. V roce 1901 byl vynalezen kovov\u00fd prsten, kter\u00fd se co nejv\u00edce p\u0159ibli\u017euje dne\u0161n\u00edmu basketbalov\u00e9mu ko\u0161i. Je p\u0159ipevn\u011bna k zadn\u00ed desce, tak\u017ee hr\u00e1\u010di mohou \u010dast\u011bji nam\u00e1\u010det. U ringu je m\u00edsto ko\u0161e ji\u017e s\u00ed\u0165, ale tak\u00e9 je uzav\u0159en\u00e1, co\u017e op\u011bt vy\u017eaduje p\u0159eru\u0161en\u00ed hry, aby mohl b\u00fdt m\u00ed\u010dek vyveden.
