A boxing scam with a tragic ending
In combat sports, and especially in boxing, there are quite a few cases of death during fights. Dozens of athletes have died in collisions with their opponents, most often due to severe head injuries, but one case was particularly scandalous and equally sad.
In September 2019, a Bulgarian boxer was knocked out in the first round by Ardit Murzha, and the referee quickly stopped the fight after a seemingly not so heavy blow sent the Bulgarian to the floor, and he fell unconscious. Doctors immediately intervened, but death occurred almost instantly. The reason - a heart attack, which almost instantly ended the life of the Bulgarian boxer.
The fatal end is far from the most scandalous chat from the tragic case in boxing. Jesus Velichkov, a Bulgarian athlete with a not particularly impressive business card in the category, was initially declared dead. However, it turns out that Jesus is alive and well in his homeland, and the deceased boxer is Boris Stanchov - another boxer who competed under a different identity.
Boris and Jesus know each other, having trained together, and Stanchov used Velichkov's identity to avoid accumulating losses to his name. He had an ambition to one day become a world champion, but while he was preparing for this he did not want to accumulate defeat under the name "Boris Stanchov".
After it was determined that the cause of death was a heart attack, it was later assumed that Stanchov had health problems that prevented him from boxing. Also found in his clothes was a Viagra pill, the consumption of which some believe was for the purpose of enhancing physical strength.
When contacted by the media, his manager categorically stated that he did not know that Stanchov was fighting with a different identity, although he does not look like Jesus Velichkov at all. The case reached the prosecutor's office, where charges were brought against the manager. In the end, though, a moche wastes his life, never having to step into a professional ring at all. The amount that was agreed upon for the fatal duel was 400 euros...
