"Creed" - how experience helps the future champion discover himself
A story that is greater than Rocky's because of Rocky's involvement
If you like watching sports movies and are fans of combat sports, Rocky is probably one of your favorites. But why not see the famous boxer played by Sylvester Stallone in the role of trainer? This is exactly what happens in "Creed", which largely overlaps in plot and ideas with one of its predecessors.
Still, the lead role is for Michael B. Jordan, but rather the film revolves around Stallone's character. Former boxer Rocky Balboa is now of a serious age and does not want to remember much about the sport that made him so famous, but young Adonis Johnson is determined to follow in the footsteps of his father Apollo Creed - Rocky's great rival.
Johnson never met his famous father, as Apollo died before Adonis was born. Boxing is in the youngster's blood and Rocky can see it in him. With the help of a great boxer, Johnson has to deal with an extremely difficult task and an opponent who surpasses him for sure. The idea is for Adonis to demonstrate that he has the heart of a true champion and to show that he is a worthy successor to his father.
The story in "Creed" also takes us back to "Rocky 4", in which Adonis is born, before his father is killed in a fight with Dolph Ludgren's character. Therefore, people who like Rocky must watch Creed. The son who, although he does not know his father, has to fight the stereotypes and the huge expectations towards him is a plot around which the whole story is woven. And what is greater than this, for this son to seek help from his father's great rival, and for this help to be the necessary drop in the cup of qualities he possesses.
As difficult as it is for Donnie to convince Rocky to train him, this is perhaps his greater achievement than the subsequent events of the film. This is the moment that actually shows Johnson's growth as a person.
Creed also reminds us of Rocky because of the story that revolves around loss and how that loss affects the character building of the characters. But the movie offers us a new character who seems more charismatic than Balboa and can quickly make you fall in love with the movie.
Ryan Coogler's work is certainly not the most original sports film, but it is conceived and, above all, directed perfectly to become one of the best screenings that came out in 2015.
