GENADIY GOLOVKIN'S BIG 5: EASY VICTORY VERSUS HARD VICTORIOUS

GENADIY GOLOVKIN'S BIG 5: EASY VICTORY VERSUS HARD VICTORIOUS

By 2013, Gennady Golovkin had proven himself among the middleweight professionals. The Kazakh has 26 consecutive victories, and the last 8 of them are in direct duels for the world title. His championship belts are in two different organizations. One takes from Milton Nunes and the other wins a duel with Lajuan Simon. Rival in his 9th dispute for the world top is the British Matthew McLean.

The Irishman has had an interesting career. The amateur part of it does not remain in history with impressive achievements. At the same time, GGG has a silver Olympic and gold world medal. But in the pros, McLean knows what it's like to win belts. His first one is for Great Britain, and the second for Europe. Two years before the clash with Golovkin, he fought for the world title with the German Felix Sturm, but lost after a controversial judge's decision.

Immediately after that, he gets a chance against Sergio Martinez. An 11 round loss proves that Matthew is very difficult to beat. At least for most middleweight pros. But not for Gennady!

Before the match, McLean was named as Golovkin's toughest opponent to date. Already in the first round, a clean and strong right straight from the Kazakh sends the opponent to the ropes. Without them, this would probably have been a knockout.

Gennadiy's dominance continued in the second round. As in the third... A right uppercut and a left hook to the opponent's body end the match one minute and 22 seconds after the start of the round. The winner's stats show 58 out of 116 successful shots (50%). Opponent is 29 of 118 (25%). Gennady Golovkin remains world middleweight champion!
