How Mike Tyson angered all of Brazil
The former boxer appeared wearing a Maradona t-shirt in court in Sao Paulo
There is hardly any dispute that Mike Tyson is one of the most memorable and successful boxers of all time. Named the baddest man on the planet back in his racing years, he often made headlines with his performances, often crossing the lines of the law. Among them we can also put one of his actions in the ring, in which he bit off a part of Evander Holyfield's ear in a match between them.
Even after the end of his career, he does not stop being interesting. His explosive temperament makes us witness a number of curious incidents, which one sometimes cannot even believe. In one of the events that definitely grabbed attention, he managed to annoy an entire nation - Brazil.
The incident took place shortly after the official end of his career, or to be more precise, only five months after he finished boxing. Mike Tyson is in Sao Paulo in a nightclub to have fun like only he knows how. However, there is a photographer at the venue who wants to take scandalous pictures of the boxer, but instead he receives several blows from "The Iron", which also breaks his technique. As a result, cameraman Carlos Eduardo da Silva has evidence to sue Tyson. A few months after the incident, the former boxer was summoned to court in the big Brazilian city and accused of an alleged assault.
However, the choice of clothing with which he appeared at the trial is more than scandalous. The American former athlete has donned an Argentina national team shirt with the number ten and the name of Diego Armando Maradona, who personally signed it when they met on a TV show earlier in the year. The former Barcelona and Napoli star is, to put it mildly, a man hated by all of Brazil due to his success with Argentina's national team and the footballing rivalry between these two countries. Anyway, the case goes without much trouble for Tyson, who has to appear in court again on the seventh of March next year, but gets away with a more serious punishment.
Mike certainly knows how to piss people off in this country, but the question is why does he do it. The answer may lie in the already mentioned boisterous temper, in the desire to be remembered for another crazy idea and to show himself as an exceptional non-puckist, ready to cross another line, but this time without breaking the law.
Fortunately, the beating of the photographer and the subsequent appearance in a court in Sao Paulo wearing a Maradona T-shirt are some of the last such acts to incur the wrath of the public. In recent years, Mike Tyson has seriously moved on from his provocative days and is even a successful businessman who also has a wonderful podcast.
