How to play roulette and what different types exist
Is this casino game as easy as it looks?
Roulette is one of the most popular casino games known all over the world. The name comes from the French word for wheel and at first glance it doesn't seem that complicated. The truth is that rule number one is very simple: you bet a certain amount on a given number, a group of numbers, a color that can be black or red, and whether an even or odd number or high (from 19 to 36) or low (from 1 to 18). To determine what number will be rolled, the croupier spins the roulette and in the opposite direction, spins a white ball to land in one of the sectors from 0 to 36.
The different betting possibilities of the players also lead to different coefficients on which the profit is calculated. For example, if you bet on a certain number, the bet is 1 in 35, although there is also a chance of 0, which is effectively 1 in 36, but this gives the casino an advantage. The casino may impose minimum or maximum bet rules and these may change with each spin. A bet can be placed until the ball is spinning around the number wheel or until the croupier announces: "no more bets".
When the winning number and color is hit, the dealer places a marker on it. When this marker is on the table, no player can make bets, collect bets, or remove bets. At this point, the croupier removes the losing bets and pays out the winning ones. The marker in question is then removed and new bets are placed.
There are also many different types of roulette, but we will look at the most popular of them. The European one is the most popular of them. The 36 numbers are divided into 3 columns of 12 each, and above all of them is the green zero. In practice, we have 37 segments with it, but if you bet on a certain number, the chance of winning is estimated at 35 to 1.
For players, the worst option is American roulette. It has a second segment with 0 added, which represents a double zero. The odds of guessing the number drop to 37 to 1, which is a serious bummer. Also, compared to European roulette, the numbers are arranged in a different way.
However, French roulette is at the service of the players. As with the European one, here we have only one sector with zero. But the players have an advantage because, if 0 is rolled, the bet can be made on red or black, as well as even or odd, and is not lost. Some places also have rules where you only lose 50% of the bet.
There is also a roulette with three zero sectors. Besides a single zero, there is a double zero as well as a triple zero. With it, your chances of success are even less than with American roulette. But it brings even more adrenaline for the players.
Certainly playing roulette is not that complicated as long as you familiarize yourself with the different types and ways to bet. It is mostly a question of luck, but also of reasoning in which sectors the ball spun by the dealer is more likely to land. There are also electronic roulettes, where the ball is only rolled by a machine, which are said to be tamper-proof, but you can find them in a number of casinos.
