"Tin Cup" - growththe ane of one golfer because of love
How can a woman positively influence any skilled athlete?
Golf may seem boring to some sports fans, but in the eyes of people who care and understand the game, it is extremely exciting. It is also very complex and requires both solid physical training and long years of hard work to become a golfer. And, if you don't watch a show or the final day of a golf tournament, you at least have the opportunity to touch parts of the sport thanks to the production "Tin Cup", or "Tin Cup" in English.
This film tells the story of failed golfer Roy McAvoy, who lives in his caravan in Winnebago, near the driving range. One day, the beautiful Molly Griswold arrives and asks Roy to teach her the game. However, he begins to fall in love with her, but soon after he learns that her friend is not a random person, but a former rival of his, who, however, managed to rise and become rich thanks to the sport. Molly manages to give him strength and ambition to participate in one of the biggest golf tournaments - the US Open Championship. There he must compete with his former rival not only for the grand prize, but also for the girl of his heart.
The main character in the romantic comedy is Kevin Costner, who is very famous for his acting in this genre. Directed by Ron Shelton. The man who manages to confirm that high position that Costner has when it comes to romantic roles in cinema in the 90s of the last century.
Roy McAvoy's stubbornness and inner problems are the main reasons why he failed to turn his championship years from college into better abilities with the golf club in his hands. It is precisely because of his lack of sufficient qualities that he remains outside the professional tour and takes a different path that leads him close to alcoholism. In order to make a living, Roy starts giving lessons in the early phase of the game, namely at the driving range of a driving range, next to which he has parked his caravan.
When Molly Griswold, beautifully played by Rene Russo, shows up one evening for her first lesson, Roy is struck by her beauty. He immediately stops his lascivious behavior and flings with strippers and waitresses to start courting Molly. After a while, he finds out that she is a friend of one of the best players, David Sims, played by Don Johnson. This is McAvoy's former partner, who, unlike him, is successful. Logically, Sims isn't portrayed in a very good light either, and it's as if Johnson very slimily enters the picture.
Molly positively influences Roy, who takes on the daunting task of entering the biggest tournament in the US and winning it. His student is the woman who must tame the inner troubles that prevent the former player from reaching his potential, and his "caddy" Romeo is responsible for his swing.
"Tin Bowl" shows that love, redemption, and the quest for immortality can lead to a person's realization that he tries to atone for his sins by becoming something he has failed to achieve. This movie is an adult comedy as it is filled with a number of sex scenes, played excellently by Russo and Costner, who seem to have real chemistry between them. At the same time, Johnson makes his image perfectly credible.
The rituals and metaphors of sports are used in an extremely qualitative way to tell the complexity of an almost impossible love. Everything seems in the right place, and our humor is not annoying, but manages to stay in the perfect environment.
In the end, "Tin Cup" shows that a woman, considered just a decoration around a skilled athlete, can become the reason he succeeds more than he thought and help him overcome the mental problems that hinder him.
