The Cuban who sent Pacquiao into retirement

.

Manny Pacquiao is one of the most famous boxers and philanthropists on the planet. Beloved by millions and regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers in modern boxing history, the Filipino seemed like he should have retired from boxing a long time ago. However, he did it just recently at the age of 41, and in the hardest way possible.

To the delight of millions, Pacquiao announces his return to the boxing ring at the beginning of 2021 with the ambition to fight again for a world champion belt. The idea is to face Errol Spence Jr., the fight was highly anticipated and expected to generate huge revenue. However, due to health problems, Spence had to give up the spectacle, and in his place, the Cuban, not particularly known to the mass fan, Yordenis Ugas, had to enter the ring. The fight was scheduled for August 21, and all expectations pointed to a triumph for Pacquiao to regain the WBA super champion belt.

In the end, however, everyone is surprised. The two get into the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where the Cuban refutes all the analysts and not only wins, but sends Pacquiao into "retirement". Ugas maintains absolute discipline in his tactics, managing to keep the Filipino at a distance by constantly using his left straight, and in moments of Manny's attacks, Ugas is able to land heavy counter attacks with right hooks that break Pacquiao's resistance in the fight. The legendary champion is trying to be more active in the "championship" rounds, but the Cuban shows excellent defense, and the Filipino also seems physically incapable of achieving a knockout (Pacquiao's last knockout was in 2010). In the end, although the fan favorite, the judges had no choice and awarded a unanimous decision that Ugas was the winner.

The Filipino has not officially announced that he will never fight again, but is focused on his political career. And after the failure in his last fight, we will hardly see him again in the professional ring...
