"The lights of the stadium" - a film demonstrating that American football is more than a sport
What does the game really mean to Texas high school teams and small town folks?
American football sports movies are plentiful, but a small number of them can show something extra to the fans of this game. A very small part of these productions can be defined as successful and show us that in this sport events are more than just wins and losses, joy and sadness. One of the classic movies about American football is "Friday Night Lights" in English.
It's a sports drama written and directed by Peter Berg that tells the story of a Permian high school team that makes an incredible run in the Texas state championship. The economically unstable city of Odessa, but not in Ukraine, but in the USA, needs unexpected heroes, and these are the Panthers players.
The feeling while watching "Stadium Lights" is like being in the stadium. It's amplified even more for people who know how special Texas high school football is. Every single scene of the film manages to show the intensity of the life of the people of the city and the desire of everyone to see something nice and unexpected. Every single scene demonstrates how hard the job is for the coaches, players and parents of these kids wearing the Panthers' uniforms. Even if you've never been to Texas and don't know much about American football, you might realize how all this pressure affects everyone involved in the game in the state.
Bolly Bob Thornton stars as Coach Gary Gaines. His role requires mastery, which Thornton brings to us. He is so good at his game that even the clichéd actions, the not well-crafted moments are erased with a light hand. You can easily understand Peter Berg's idea, which is to inspire not only people who are one idea away from sports, but also those who are aware of what is happening. There aren't many sports movies that can't irritate true fans of the game with clumsy scenes, overly unrealistic elements, or not-so-strong acting from the lead character. Well, Stadium Lights achieves that in large part thanks to Billy Bob Thornton.
The matches themselves that we see also look very real. They only contribute to feeling like a part of it all. At times you can imagine yourself in the shoes of the players, coaches and everyone involved in training. Like the movie "Remember The Titans", or "Remember The Titans" in English, there is a lot of emphasis on the game moments, but they are not that long, or at least it feels like they are not too long, which adds to the truth.
Clearly, the Panthers' results in the film don't quite match up to the 1988 state tournament, nor do some of the matchups given the opponents they face. However, this does not change the attitude towards the production, nor does it detract from its quality, because no one claims absolute accuracy, but a film based on a true story. The director's idea to show the importance of American football for a modest city with a number of economic problems is fulfilled, and this is the basis on which we can rest all the good words written in this article. All the events that happen to the Panthers team in the film show that even one game can improve the lives of people in an entire city.
Stadium Lights is a movie that will make you want to play football, to follow the sport not only in the National Football League, but also in the lower divisions, to understand that the sport was created to unite and pleases It makes you feel inexplicable feelings from the victories of a team you've probably never heard of. The film shows how you can go through the difficulties of the years when you have to sharpen yourself as a person and at the same time please your fellow citizens with your sporting achievements. This production showcases the strong spirit of children pushed by their parents, coaches and all the people of the town for the sake of victory. Stadium Lights is a classic sports drama that can capture the heart of any young athlete breaking into the game.
