"The Master"- the book that gives us a complete picture of Roger Federer
A special CV for a special man and player
When it comes to tennis, it is clear that the names of the three greats will forever be the most frequently mentioned. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have redefined the sport through their dominance, which we can safely say continues into 2022 after Nadal won his 21st Grand Slam title. For many years, however, Federer was number one in this indicator. The Swiss' elegance, finesse and masculinity have made him a favorite among many of the game's fans. It is no coincidence that a number of autobiographical books have been written about him. The last of them, "The Master" by Christopher Cleary, came out in August of last year and has no Bulgarian translation yet, but it is certainly the most complete in describing his amazing career.
We no doubt miss Federer on the court, where we should have seen him during the United States Open last year, but another injury stopped him. The pages of "The Master", however, help us merge past and present, transporting us to the best moments of the Swiss maestro. In it, we will find out how a very sensitive and temperamental teenager, who rarely manages to control his emotions, becomes the player we all know.
“The Master” gives us a glimpse into Roger's personality not only on the court, but off it as well. Not only to his childhood years, but also to his work as a sports ambassador. The book chronologically reveals all the steps of a player's development, career and side activities and does so precisely and precisely like a Swiss watch. Christopher Cleary made the most of the opportunity to have spent more than 20 years close to the tennis player, stepping with him on 6 continents and experiencing incredible moments that the most loyal fans of the Swiss dream about.
Therefore, in the book you will read stories that no one has revealed before, you will learn curious details about the journeys, experiences, problems and stumbling blocks that a competitor can have, although of such a high rank. The author also offers us a window into the healthy life of an athlete who has stayed at a high level for many years, also showing the risks that must be taken, but remain hidden from most of the media. You will also understand why Federer is like an artist, like a ballet dancer on the court, who makes tennis look like child's play, but it is not at all.
The author also uses several turning points where the plot seems to change its direction abruptly, which makes this autobiography that much more special. It begins to look like a novel, but it is not only based on a true story, but even more, it tells a phenomenal fate of a person with a capital "Ch".
It is certainly worth getting your hands on this edition, which is still hard to find on the Bulgarian market, but if you know English, you can undoubtedly delve into the pages written by Christopher Cleary. This way you will be able to understand the smallest detail of life on and off the court, from childhood antics to the gentlemanly demeanor that accompanied the entire professional career of one of the big three, if not the greatest. You will be able to see Roger Federer with eyes that no other autobiography written about him can offer you.
