The shocking day the world saw Mike Tyson vulnerable

The date is February 11th. A seemingly ordinary day for many, but it is in Tokyo, Japan on the road to happen one of the biggest sensations not only in boxing, but in sports in general. That day, in 1990, goes down in history as the day the myth of the invincible Mike Tyson was debunked.

Titled "Tyson Returns," the bout was supposed to be just a "light workout" for Mike as he stepped back into the ring in the "land of the rising sun" where he fought three years earlier and within 3 rounds crushed Tony Tubbs.

“Tokyo Dome" shakes with excitement, and another "punching pear" appears in front of Tyson. This is Buster Douglas, who before the match with Iron Mike is on a streak of 4 losses and a draw. Everyone expects a patent knockout in the early rounds from Tyson. But no one is prepared for what's to come on fight night on February 11th.

Whether it's because of his mother's death weeks earlier, or simply his more atypical style that makes Mike uncomfortable, Douglas doesn't turn out to be the outsider everyone expects. Instead, with bold attacks and an even more inspiring defense, he "survived" the first rounds and demonstrated that the match for Tyson will not be easy at all. Moreover, in the 8th round, Zheleznia decided that he had won, after he finally managed to send his opponent to the ground. However, Buster stands up, and in his desperation, Tyson completely forgets about his defense.

So, just a round later, Buster's action begins. In the 9th part of the match, Douglas began to impose his opponent throughout the ring, and with one final series he even managed to knock out Tyson's mouth guard. Mike is knocked out, the audience is shocked, and the news of his sensational defeat travels around the world in a matter of hours, long before the age of social media.

Douglas subsequently lost his titles just 8 months later and never again reached boxing's greatest heights. But forever his name remains in history as the man, debunked the myth of the Mike Tyson horror
