Top 10 boxers in the decade between 2010 and 2020 - part 2

The other five who made these ten years in the history of sports unforgettable

The past decade in boxing marks truly historic moments. The years from 2010 to 2020 offer us the end of the careers of great athletes and the start of many promising athletes who will continue to excite millions of sports fans around the world. In the previous part of this material, we introduced you to the five most significant professional boxers of the last decade. It remains to be seen who the other five find a place in the top 10 of the best.

#6 – Gennady Golovkin

A bit unusual, but Golovkin is a Kazakhstani who dominates the middleweight division and currently has 43 matches played, of which he won 41, lost only one and one match ended without a winner. Triple G, as his nickname is, comes from the initials of Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin, who lost for the first time in September 2018 to the Mexican Saul Alvarez. He currently holds the titles of the International Boxing Federation and the International Boxing Organization, and over the years he has also won the titles of the World Boxing Association and the World Boxing Council. Within a year, between September 2017 and September 2019, he was named the best boxer in the world by Ring magazine. Between 2010 and 2020, he established himself as one of the most dangerous boxers after winning 83.3% from his knockout bouts. He became the first fighter to stop Daniel Gayle and Kell Brook, and went on a streak of 37 consecutive victories. The success with which he won his last title was more than decisive and in a clash with the fearless Ukrainian Segey Derevyanchenko. It is for all these reasons that we rank Golovki in the sixth position.

#7 – Terence Crawford

With 38 victories in the professional ring, 29 of them by knockout and no defeats, the American is one of the best boxers. He moved through the lightweight division, where he held two world titles in 2014 and 2015, then won three more light welterweight titles, and finally came his most significant accolade, the World Boxing Organization's welterweight championship belt . Crawford is the third-ranked American, and one of his last wins in 2020 came against Lithuanian two-time Olympic champion Egidius Kavaliauskas, who had never been knocked out before. Also impressive is his victory over Amir Khan in April 2019. Since the end of the decade, which he entered with 36 wins, he has picked up two more wins and is still looking for an opponent to stop his impressive run.

#8 – Manny Pacquiao

You may be sick of seeing the Filipino in all sorts of rankings for the best boxers, but if it weren't for the defeat by Floyd Mayweather, many people would consider Pacquiao the greatest of all time. It's a bad coincidence that he just has too much competition in the welterweight division, and being in his 40s, he couldn't be at his best anymore. Still, Pacquiao has had some notable fights, including the fight of the century with Mayweather in 2015. However, victories like this one over American Kate Thurman, 10 years his junior, guarantee PacMan's place in this ranking. In fact, the Filipino did it in July 2019, when he was already 40 and Thurman was still undefeated.

#9 – Oleksandr Usyk

Before moving up to heavyweight and performing more than convincingly in his victory over Anthony Joshua in 2021, Usyk reached the point where he held all the light heavyweight championship belts. Between July 2018 and March 2019, the Ukrainian was the undisputed champion in his division after winning his match against Murat Gassiev in Moscow by unanimous decision. And with his 17 wins over the past decade, Usyk has shown that nothing good awaits his next opponents. His last success at lightweight was against Britain's Tony Bellew, and then came both victories at heavyweight, but they were after the 2020s.

#10 – Tyson Fury

Some would immediately criticize us that Gypsy King comes only in the tenth position in this ranking, but it was only in November 2015 that his star rose, and that after a victory over Wladimir Klitschko in a clash for the world heavyweight title. It was the biggest shock in the boxing world since Burster Douglas won against Mike Tyson more than 30 years ago. And Fury's victory came after a unanimous decision. However, there followed a two and a half year break due to mental problems for the boxer from Manchester. In 2018, he returned to the professional ring and defeated the World Boxing Council champion Deontay Wilder. Fury currently has a balance of 31 wins and 1 draw in his 32 fights in the professional ring, and another big fight awaits him soon.
