Guinness World Records: The largest strip poker tournament in history
There are all kinds of absurd achievements in the Guinness Book of World Records, but one of the most interesting undoubtedly comes from the diverse and scandalous world of poker. On August 19, 2006, the record for the largest strip poker tournament was set in London, a record that is unlikely to ever be bettered given the social changes we've undergone since then.
The event is organized by Paddy Power and takes place at the Cafe Royal in the English capital. As many as 196 people take part in the race, and the goal is clear – the last participant left with some clothes on him wins!
The only rule for participation is that the person must be at least 18 years old. From there, there are hours of poker and undressing, with gender having no bearing - men only in briefs, women only in underwear. There are a number of photos and videos proving that they all followed the rules of the game. The ladies definitely seem more shy, using their hands to cover themselves the moment they have to take off their top.
2006 was part of the poker boom, with the game at its peak of popularity at the time. "Guinness Records" had its representative during the tournament, who was subsequently entered into the book.
It should be noted, however, that the tournament organized by the bookmaker is for charity. The winner is John Young, who receives his trophy in briefs. He was presented with a check for £10,000, choosing to donate it to cancer research.
