1990 Formula 1 season: Victory is more important than anything!

1990 was the debut year in Formula 1 for world champion Alain Prost for the Ferrari team. The Frenchman, who switched from McLaren-Honda, quickly adapted to his new team and managed to win in his second start - for the Brazilian Grand Prix. This does not sit well with his former team-mate, who has also aimed for the world summit - Ayrton Senna. This marks the beginning of a dramatic duel for the most valuable honor, which forever marked the history of Formula 1.

Ayrton Senna won 6 of the 16 starts and Prost triumphed in 5 of them. In the penultimate race for the Japanese Grand Prix, the Brazilian entered with a 9-point lead and started from pole position. Despite the lead, Senna drops out. Prost also shared his fate, because the two came into contact in the first corners. So none of them get points. The last race for the Australian Grand Prix was won by Nelson Piquet. Thus, Ayrton Senna ends the season as the points leader and respectively wins his second world title. Alain Prost failed in his defense as a Ferrari driver and remained second, with Nelson Piquet third with the Lotus-Judd team.

Despite not being able to take the Scuderia to the top, Alain Prost has brought Ferrari back into world title contention, which is more than enough for the team at this stage. A year after the dramatic dispute over the most prized accolade, Senna admitted that the Suzuka accident was deliberate and justified his actions with the more inconvenient track for the corners. Many criticized the actions, while others admired his honesty in admitting that winning was more important to him than anything else. Despite the controversial circumstances, his success brought a world title for the constructors from McLaren-Honda. Thus, for the third time in their history, the British conquered the world peak. The Ferrari team is second, and third is that of Lotus-Judd, who thanks to Nelson Piquet finishes in the top three.
